Welcome to High Altitude Experience

Lotta Hintsa and I created this website as a platform to share content from our expeditions, climbing, training, and all things relating to high-altitude alpinism. All visitors are welcome and encouraged to ask questions and participate in dialog regardless of age, experience, culture, or background- so long as you follow the community rules posted on the ABOUT page.

Every climber has a personal climbing ethic. A climbing ethic is not about standing on a summit, but rather how we get to the summit. Some of our content will promote our own personal climbing ethic, but our views are open to dialog and consideration, and we feel healthy dialog is desperately needed in a rapidly changing world and environment.

Speaking of ethics, one of our personal goals is to pursue greater self-reliance in the mountains, and much of our content is inspired by this. In a sense, no climber is purely self-reliant -unless we built the car that drove to the trailhead or stitched the climbing boots on our feet- we all depend on others at some level. However, Lotta and I continually strive to increase our own self-reliance in the mountains, and our methods and personal climbing ethic continues to evolve as we find new ways to lower our impact, climb more independently, and reach our limits without compromise.
